Here’s a neat short film on the greatest typographers of our time, Jonathan Hoelfer & Tobias Frere-Jones. The video (commissioned by the American Institute of Graphic Arts) commemorates “H & FJ” winning an AIGA Medal in 2013. Unfortunately, the two split at the start of this year, but the foundry continues turning out typefaces — minus the FJ — as “H & Co.”

PBS short - “Off Book: Type”

"In episode 2 of Off Book, typeface designers Jonathan Hoefler and Tobias Frere-Jones outline the importance of selecting the right font to convey a particular feeling. Graphic designer Paula Scher talks about building identity in messaging, while Eddie Opara uses texture to create reaction. Infographic designers Julia Vakser and Deroy Peraza map complicated data sets into digestible imagery, mixing color, graphics and type.”

Interview with Andy Cruz of House Industries. Comes with tour photos of his house AND the House Ind. Offices. Andy’s house looks like log cabin lodge on the outside. But on the inside it’s all vintage mid-century design and House products. What a dream come true. <3 Also, this quote makes me wonder if Andy has a Tumblr I can follow?:

'What do we like?’ Whether it was a musical reference, flipping through LP’s, Tiki mugs, or sticker collections—that was our Tumblr site. Now it’s tough to not see [our typefaces] because they’ve saturated pop culture in a weird way. — Andy Cruz, Co-founder of House Industries
